All Praise Due / Mentoring Program

Peace All,
This is Magic, this woman changed the course of my life. She taught me how to design clothes in the "Real-World".Hands on Magic taught me what The Art Institue didn't.It's always good to see Magic as she popped in my office to check in on her prize student....ME! Whenever Magic & I get together i always gush and let her know how much I appreciate her taking the time to teach me every step of the way how to be a "Proper" fashion-head.We need more mentoring programs, big brother/big sister programs in urban areas.I know the pains of growing up poor,in the projects.Luckily,I was able to be exposed to people like MAgic and see the world.Believe me no one is more appreciative than this kid from the Projects. All Praise Due to my mentor and everyone like her.
Peace & Respect

VT SHOOTING/GUN CONTROL PT.1

Peace All,
I assume we have all heard of the mass murder at Virginia Tech University.I hurt anytime there is a lost of innocent life is taken, especially when it's senseless violence like this tragedy. We all have to take a look and get involved in every aspect of social activism, even if it's just your own neighborhood. This CELEBRATION OF IGNORANCE & CULTURE OF DEATH HAS TO STOP.But it will never stop unless each of us get involved.the problem with that is most of us don't care unless the bloodshed comes to our doorstep and that's sad.this can't be the case, why wait? Be proactive to prevent the drama coming to your own household.Like today, any of us can be a victim of a random act of senseless violence. If we have the time to chase broads, golddig, worship celebrity & collect sneakers we are able to get involved and take care of one another.I'm really getting worn out of we (as a whole) are treating each other like BEASTS.Less than honorable, disrespecting each other. It's time know have take the same energy you have in your businesses, your travels, the things you love and apply it to standing up and not giving into the B*ullS*it.We are in a STATE OF EMERGENCY.The 2% of the wealthy that run this country don't give a damn about any of us.We're all in this together! The kid that shot up the campus was a Chinese kid on a student visa
(according to ATF).Where did he get a gun? Most of us know it's as easy as ordering a pizza to get a gun.We have to call for tougher gun laws and hard sentences for illegal guns.Protection or not (because thats usually someone in the streets excuse)
BullS*IT if you want a gun,it's like a passport go fill out the paperwork and get a permit for a gun.Stop with the excuses and let's be good to each other .............I'M TALKING TO ALL YA'LL
BE THE CHANGE

VT SHOOTING/GUN CONTROL PT.2

BLACKSBURG, Va. - Thirty-three people, including the gunman, were killed at a Virginia university Monday in the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. At least 15 other people were injured, some of them as they leaped to safety from the fourth floor of a classroom building.

The shootings, which took place in two locations on campus, came just four days before the eighth anniversary of the Columbine High School bloodbath near Littleton, Colo. They created panic and confusion at the college, where students and employees angrily asked why the first e-mail warning did not go out to them until the gunman had struck a second time.

Nearly 50 victims
Federal law enforcement officials said the gunman killed himself after he shot dozens of people at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, in southwest Virginia. Thirty-two people plus the shooter were confirmed dead.

In addition to the 33 dead, hospitals reported that 15 people were injured, some of whom had jumped from the fourth floor of the classroom building where the second wave of shootings took place. Five were in stable condition; the conditions of the others were not immediately reported.

Investigators told NBC News that they had been unable to positively identify the gunman, who died after he shot himself in the face. He carried no ID or cell phone, and an initial check on his fingerprints came up empty.

Witnesses described him as a man in his 20s, wearing a maroon cap and a black leather jacket. A spokesman for the FBI in Washington said there was no immediate evidence to suggest that the incident was a terrorist attack, “but all avenues will be explored.”

“Today the university was struck with a tragedy that we consider of monumental proportions,” said Charles Steger, the university’s president. “The university is shocked and indeed horrified.”

President Bush said in a brief televised statement: “Schools should be places of sanctuary and safety and learning. When that sanctuary is violated, the impact is felt in every American classroom and every American community. Today, our nation grieves with those who have lost loved ones at Virginia Tech.”

Warnings came too late
Steger and law enforcement authorities gave this account of the day’s events in public statements and comments to NBC News:

The rampage began about 7:15 a.m. ET at West Ambler Johnston, a coeducational residence hall that houses 895 people. The gunman, armed with a 9-mm pistol and a .22-caliber handgun, killed two people there before making his way to Norris Hall, an engineering classroom building on the opposite end of the 2,600-acre campus.

About 9:15, the gunman chained the doors of the classroom building so his potential victims could not escape and police could not enter. There, he shot as many as 46 more people.

Not until 9:26 did the first warning to students and employees go out by e-mail, according to the time stamps on copies obtained by NBC News. By then, the classroom shooting was well under way.

The first e-mail had few details. It said: “A shooting incident occurred at West Amber Johnston earlier this morning. Police are on the scene and are investigating.” The message warned students to be cautious and contact police about anything suspicious.

Maurice Hiller, a student, told The Associated Press that he went to a 9 a.m. class just two buildings away from the engineering building and that no warnings were coming over the outdoor public address system on campus at the time.

Steger said at a briefing for reporters that administrators and police initially believed the first shooting was an isolated domestic incident and did not see a need to close the university. Steger said they believed the gunman had fled the campus.

“We can only make decisions based on the information you had on the time. You don’t have hours to reflect on it,” he said.

Inside the engineering building, an “unreal” and bloody scene was unfolding.

“None of us thought it could have been gunshots,” a student who identified himself as Trey Perkins told MSNBC’s Chris Jansing in a telephone interview. “... I’m not sure how long it lasted. It seemed like a really long time.”

Perkins said the gunman never said a word. “He didn’t say, ‘Get down.’ He didn’t say anything.” He just started shooting.”

The gunman left that classroom and then tried to return, but students kept him out by bracing the door closed with their feet. “He started to try to come in again and started shooting through the door,” Perkins said, but hit no one.

“I got on the ground and I was just thinking, like, there’s no way I’m going to survive this,” Perkins said. “All I could keep thinking of was my mom.”

Until Monday, the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history was in Killeen, Texas, in 1991, when George Hennard plowed his pickup truck into a Luby's Cafeteria and shot 23 people to death, then himself.

The deadliest previous campus shooting in U.S. history took place in 1966 at the University of Texas, where Charles Whitman climbed to the 28th-floor observation deck of a clock tower and opened fire. He killed 16 people before he was gunned down by police.

The Terrorists Are On Your Block

Peace All,
My man Stanley Crouch does it again. He nails it on this article. As we worship sneakers, celebrity and jewelry. The real world is
falling apart.I've never been able to relate to gangs and gang culture, but that does'nt mean I ignore the issues of gangs and the issues that plague society. It all boils down to Parenting & Education. There is a deplorable, lack of respect for learning and self esteem is at a all time low for young people. For them it's easier to just drop out of school and isolate themselves from the real world. We worry about Celebrity nonsense,Gucci,Prada,Jewelry & other BS.But we won't take the time to read with our children, check their homework and teach them how to cook.I'll go so far as to say Ladies:Stop having these unwanted kids.
Men:Stop running away from you responsibilities. To both,if you don't have the financial/mental/emotional resources to be a parent then don't bring another life into a world of hurt and despair. These unwanted children are the gang members, drug dealers & murderers of tommorow. Please peep Stanley Crouches article below:

THE TERRORISTS ARE ON YOUR BLOCK
If one waits long enough, word gets around.
In a recent issue of American Spectator, conservative writer Ben Stein announced that "in the 5-1/2 years since Sept. 11, 2001, there have been roughly 40,000 killings by gangs and gang members in this United States of America, mostly in the African-American and Hispanic sections of large cities." Stein goes on to say that the innocent members of those communities, infant to elderly, "are living in a nonstop reign of terror."
It is good that Stein has noticed this and that he is making clear to his conservative readership that it has kept its head in the sand while thumping its chest and declaring its deep resolve to stand up to terrorism. "Why don't leaders of this country ever address this problem?" he asks. "How can we conservatives," he wonders, "explain how it's conservative to simply ignore the loss of law in our cities?" Good question. As if obliquely addressing the liberal supposed "friends of people of color," Stein throws this one right across the plate, "Is it non-PC to even mention it because the killers are almost always nonwhite?"
I have wondered these same things for years and have come to the conclusion that the black and Latino communities have been left on the chopping block of anarchic urban terrorism because the realities of American life now challenge too many prefabricated opinions based on ideas about victimization or lack of individual drive.
In other words, we can never "blame the victim" because we all should know that so-called minorities are inevitably helpless to stand up against the economic and environmental circumstances that shape them into a decidedly small percentage who actually join gangs and the drug crews responsible for so many cold-hearted murders. On the other hand, if these people had more pluck and a stronger work ethic they wouldn't even be there when the bullets fly, killing innocent people of all ages who actually should be living in the suburbs, watching the carnage with their white neighbors.
Both "visions" are cowardly.
What we need in this time of extraordinary urban and domestic terror is actual leadership focused on the preservation of American lives. One of the first things liberals, conservatives and moderates who would lead need to think about is what they would do if those responsible for nearly 40,000 murders among so-called minorities were not "people of color," but white gang members and drug posses.
This is the deepest racial irony of our time. None of the perpetual arguments or explanations for barbaric behavior are ever made when the perpetrators of hideous crimes are white. For instance, when James Byrd Jr. was murdered by a trio of white men, an all-white jury treated the killers as what they were: conscious predators who had themselves some fun at the cost of another man's life. They were sentenced to death.
But imagine if Byrd had been murdered by three black members of a Texas version of the Crips. Fairly soon, Byrd would have been no more a victim than his murderers.
I think that all of those running for President in 2008 need to confront this issue of national terrorism and tell us what they intend to do about it other than wring their hands. This should be a defining issue for both parties and all political persuasions. It is time for those who would lead to lift their heads from the sand of denial and face the harsh murderous light of anarchic terrorism in the big cities of this country. This issue will make it clear as the summer sun just who is serious about the proven threats to American life and who is not.
